Districts have received school grades since they were first introduced in 1999, but Pinellas has earned the top letter.
The Florida Department of Education awarded Pinellas an “A”, the district’s first.
Superintendent Kevin Hendrick expressed pride in the achievement.
“I am incredibly proud as this designation is the result of the dedication and commitment of our Board and every PCS employee,” he said. “The work of every one of our schools is evident, and the excellence of our amazing students continues to elevate because of the work in our classrooms, schools, and district offices.
This is a historically great day for our community.”
Grades for individual schools also was released.
Melrose Elementary has increased its rating from a “C” to a “B” for the 2023-2024 school year.
